Reception

During Term 3, Squirrels class have been learning some traditional tales.  We have been busy reading the stories, recording our recount of the stories using microphones, role playing, painting the characters and finding out the best way to make a strong wall!

Year 1

Over ground, under ground

As part of the exciting year 1 topic, over ground, underground we were lucky enough to welcome Dr Chris Spencer from the University of the West of England in to school to talk to us. He told us how fossils were made and brought in lots of examples for us to touch and look at. The next day we went fossil hunting in the school grounds and were amazed to find small dinosaur fossils that we had to carefully excavate from their hidden homes. We are now doing lots of work about our fossils and dinosaurs and have particularly enjoyed painting pictures of dinosaurs and sketching fossils.

Year 2

Since Christmas in Year 2 we have been very busy learning about Space.

We are trying hard to be independent learners and have used the internet and books to research the topics that we are interested in.

Some of us wanted to know about the different planets, some of us wanted to know what it is like to be an astronaut, a few were keen to discover if alien life exists!

We have tried to record what we have found in different ways to share with each other.

We have also been finding out about forces in Science and have investigated how different forces affect the speed of objects.

We have tried racing cars over different surfaces to see how this changes the speed that they travel at.

We also worked together to plan a fair test to find out if the height of a slope will affect the speed of a car travelling down, and what the best height for the slope would be.

In maths we have been finding out about right angles.

We made ourselves “angle biters” so we could investigate everyday objects and find out if they have right angles.

Also we used our angle biters to find out about right angles in 2D shape.

The Beebots have also helped us investigate and understand right angles and we’ve had lots of fun programming them to follow pathways and take right angle turns.

Year 3

Take a look at members of Year 3 working hard and enjoying their learning. Look out for: workshops about Ancient Egypt and Recycling, our trip to Bristol Museum, creative story writing, maths, science and art. We think that Year 3 would have made excellent tomb painters for the Pharaohs!

Year 3 Cultural Awareness

After having some interesting workshops with some visitors from different cultural backgrounds, Year 3 presented what they had found out about Somalia and the Caribbean using power point slides. They showed the slides in a whole school assembly. Read their slides to find out what they learned.

 Pupil Led Clubs

The children at the juniors are very keen to make lunchtime an enjoyable, fun time. They are brilliant at volunteering to organise and run their own clubs, and sharing their special talents with others. They are certainly developing an understanding of contributing to their community and gaining useful life skills for the future. Well done children and a big thank you! Also, a special thank you to Miss Rogers who supports the children with their business plans and to the lunch break supervisors who oversee the smooth running of the clubs.
